Maybe the lights come on when its raining (rain sensor)... but if its not dark then the display doesn't flip to night mode?

I actually had it happen to me the other day and that seemed to fit the theory...

Is there any other technology you fear? I'm surprised you are visiting a web site really ;-)

I think there is an option below to send a reply by telegram ;-)
Ha ha! I'd rather it was carrier pigeon

Can't recall saying I was a technophobe. There's some very good and useful tech in our cars, but I'd be happy to do without auto lights and auto wipers that have a mind of their own.

However, as much as it pains me to admit, having come from almost zero tech & being a staunch hater of auto lights and wipers, the former may as well be there until you want to pull the DRL fuse and the latter just need some common sense programming. Same probably goes for ACC as well, which may work better with the hateful 'box , but needs some serious finesse with an old fashioned manual, for one.

Now the aforementioned DSG & probably the odd other bit. TBH, I haven't driven a GTI DSG & hope/presume it is better, but have driven an ordinary car with. Theoretical brilliance, feckin awful reality, unless you want or need it.

IMHO, of course

Fred. Pretty sure I've seen a setting, somewhere in the menus, for something like "Lights on with wipers", or words to that effect.

There is a parallel for this with the conventional dash in that the dimming, when it gets dark, to remind you to put your lights on, does not work in concert with auto lights. Must work off a different sensor.
