Mk7.5 GTI Rear Lights
« on: 01 August 2017, 22:17 »
Tonight was the first chance I've had to play about with my lights.

Does anyone know how many rear fog lights there should be? Of the small inset lights 2 light up white when reversing. Another one on the right is a fog light but the other small one on the left doesn't seem to do anything?

Also unrelated, but still on lights, a few review videos I saw showed the front/rear led lights doing a strange flickering thing. Any idea what that is?

The flickering is to do with how a video records and the frame rate.

In real life it's not visible to the human eye I.e. You won't see flickering

Ah ok that makes sense thanks.

I thought it looked a bit odd and I couldn't think what purpose it would serve!  :undecided:

................and only the offside rear foglight works, as standard.

Opens a whole can of worms as to why - supposed to be to stop confusion between foglights on and stoplights on - but that's how it is from the factory. Not sure how much of the kit is there to make the nearside function. On Mk 4s the bulb holder was there, so you needed a wire from the offside and a bulb fitting.

For me, the more red light showing in fog the better, but I've not done anything about fixing this on my Mk 7's.

Thanks for that. So the small 'light' next to the nearside reversing light shouldn't do anything then.

If that's how it's supposed to be I'm happy enough. Was just checking I didn't have a fault.

Most cars only have one nowadays to save the double fog lights masking the brake lights. Good Idea IMO as there are too many idiots that forget to turn them off or turn them on when not needed.
