Stolen/Recovered?
« on: 15 September 2005, 13:48 »
Interested in what the consensus on here is!

A mate is just about to buy a Golf Mk4 T reg turbo that has been chipped 200bhp for £3300

But its a stolen/recovered car.

This is obviously affecting the price he is paying, what about when he wants to sell it on??? Will this make it difficult to sell???

Well if it obviously affects the price now it will do the same in future as the Cat D classification stays with a car for it's entire life.

If its not officially Cat D for some reason.. then theres no need to let on it was nicked... ;)
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

Depends how long he plans to keep it i suppose , my old man bought a ST220 mondeo that was stolen recovered, (had interior nicked) he got it dirt cheap when he sold it he told people it went for less than a totally perfect one but he still made a profit . all depends

if u can blag it cheap enough as a stolen recovered, then tehres no problem.. a lot of people don't mind as long as you've got receipts for fixing of damage if there was much,
mine was stolen and recovered, then an insurance write off.. doesn't bother me tbh, basically its the same as gettin a normal car, but the prices r different!! if its stolen/recovered, you pay less, and sell for a relative price, just as if you pay more, you'll get a similar price to the price you paid when you sell it on... or somehting like that.. get my jist.. can't explain what i mean!

ive bought stolen recovered cars before, bunged new lock sets on and repaired any minor damage, a slong as you get them 'VERY CHEAP' it dosnt really matter about the history etc, as if you ever want to sell your going to have to tell the prospective buyer (if there not clever enough to hpi check the car) and as they will be getting it 'CHEAP' i dont think theyll mind a bit of blurred history, you must however advertise them as this otherwis its naughty and you can end up in trouble!!!!

if i were offered a 1.8t for that kind of money id be buying it i reckon... only if it were a 3dr though...
