« on: 12 December 2016, 16:45 »
Hey troops. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to buy a genuine unit (rcd510) all I seem to find is copies. Thanks in advance.
Also is there that much of a difference between the rcd 310 and the rcd 510. Thanks again.
Gal.

You could get a brand new genuine one from your local VW dealer, but it will be very expensive; currently advertised at £1,205 fitted!

These guys are advertising genuine RCD510 head units (DAB model) with 2 year warranty at £332.50 ex VAT, so £415.62 incl. VAT; link to website;

They also do a non-DAB version for £249.17 ex VAT / £311.46 incl. VAT, but it's out of stock.

There will be cheaper ones on eBay but the majority will be from China.

Main differences between the RCD510 and RCD310; RCD510 is a touch screen head unit with a 6.5" colour screen and incorporates a 6 CD changer and also has an SD slot. RCD310 isn't touch screen, has a smaller black on blue backlit display (early models) or white graphics on black display (later models), takes a single CD and doesn't have an SD slot.

2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

You can get a decent FM RCD510 on ebay with traffic news if you are not bothered about DAB (not Chinese versions which do not have traffic news). DAB requires an additional amplifier at about £70 on top of the radio price plus additional wiring. Occasionally dealers advertise RCD510 when upgrading for a customer - that is how I got mine brand new a while ago when replacing the RCD310 at a fraction of the list price. I already had DAB so it was just plug and play.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Be careful which revision you buy too as earlier ones cannot take the latest firmware updates
