So what you are saying is everyone with SS pack are trying to, or pretending to, make their CR 2.0 TDI 184 sound like a 2.5litre 5 pot 400 bhp TTRS/RS3?

Wow, you do read what you want to read don't you? The devices are programmable, they're used on mercs, audi's , vw's and I don't doubt every other German car maker. Diesel, Petrol, whatever, the manufacturer can choose what the sound is like. There's even a Kufatec box for these cars that lets you select a variety of different sounds.

Me personally, I don't ever think a diesel is going to sound like a 2.5 petrol, nor would I want to try. Making a diesel sound better? Very much so. You don't seem to have experienced the S&S pack for yourself but I will say that it sounds nothing like a V8/V6/Straight 6 or any other "nice" sounding "proper" engines making their natural noise, it does make a normally boring engine sound a bit nicer. But, as I said earlier, even those putting in "proper" engines are using these devices to "augment the audio track" of the engine.

You don't have to like it, you don't have to buy one (though the day is approaching where all cars will be "augmented"), not sure why you feel the need to berate the choices of others?

Good look buying in the future,, they're all at it.....

Your the one that said they all have a 'family' note and its being used on the TTRS??

Really don't want to 'experience' the S&S for myself thanks, seen plenty of videos when it first come out and IMO its just embarrassing.

No I didn't order it on my own GTD, but did considered it - purely for the red calipers and possibly gain from the rear silencer delete. But at the time of ordering I couldn't find out if the exhaust speaker could be easily disconnected without any problems, plus I went for TR so the red calipers wouldn't really stand out as much..

Oh and I do apologies if I have upset any of the S&S pack committee, but it was actually only meant to be a bit of light heated banter. (I know a few would have seen it this way)
Like I said before, whatever floats your boat, each to their own, you enjoy your S&S GTD and I will enjoy my non-SS GTD.

lol what are you 12? There's banter and there's being an arse. Read up on what it means. Referring to those who like the S&S pack as a "committee" is a great way to make you look really immature.

Hey, each to their own, again you might want to look up what that actually means

Again, the committee comment was just a little joke, you need to lighten up my friend.

You obviously don't like my opinion of the S&S, it really doesn't bother me in the slightest, I'm pretty sure I'm not the first person on here that has had a similar opinion of it, lets just agree to disagree, its Friday, have a beer and chill

I think it's funny you think it's an embarrassing option GTD1414! I'm not a flashy guy but the exhaust sounds great to me. I believe it sounds a bit better than standard even with the speaker turned off. And with the speaker on I believe it's louder than the GTI and possibly the R (thinking back to my R test drive, but someone may have a better idea).

It doesn't matter that it's a diesel to me as it's all about the grin it puts on your face. Plus you just flick it off when you want to, perfect.

This is one of the best videos showing it incase anyone is put off by your comments

Ffrank, you've hit the nail on the head where you say its louder than the GTI/R, IMO thats wrong, but if you like it then thats all that matters.

I actually really like your combo of Night Blue with the red calipers.

My GTD is TR with sunroof, a lot of people probably don't like that, but I do.

Although I'd happily buy a GTD without it, ever since it was first announced I've thought the S&S pack was a really novel idea and totally un-Volkswagen like.
It's fairly cheap and just adds a bit of fun to the car in lieu of having a PP option.
I'd tick that box for sure if I was ordering.

Plus there has been more than one person who has said their S&S equipped car felt quicker. There has definitely been something lost in translation about the pack and I doubt it actually puts out much extra power but it's quite possible the turbo spools quicker due to the freer flowing exhaust making it more responsive.
And anything to make a Diesel sound less agricultural has to be a good thing...

‘25 8.5R, ‘23 8R, ‘20 8CS, ‘19 135iX, ‘19 TCR, ‘17 Ed40, ‘17 GTD, ‘15 7R, ‘13 GTI PP, ‘11 GTI, ‘09 GTI, ‘98 Ibiza Cupra, ‘05 GTI, ‘06 Polo GTI, ‘04 GT TDI, ‘05 Fabia vRS, ‘02 GTI T, ‘03 Ibiza TDI 130, ‘01 Leon 180, ‘89 mk2 16v, ‘99 Ibiza TDI, ‘96 VR6, ‘98 Ibiza TDI, ‘92 VR6, ‘88 mk2 8v, ‘92 Polo G40, ‘91 mk2 8v, ‘89 mk2 8v, 205 GTI 1.9, ‘83 mk1 GTI, ‘80 Scirocco GTI, plus some others I’ve forgotten

Ah cmon now. That's like David Beckham giving the thumbsup to his kid during Sunday morning footie match

S&S owner here too and I love it. I don't think any video can truly capture what it sounds like in real life. The GoPro one is close enough though.
My son always asks me if he can do "vroom vroom" on the accelerator pedal. Pretty sure he wouldn't want to if it didn't sound like it does :)
