my dsg plays up sometimes, i've only done 200 miles atm as i'm still trying to sort the steering out. but for myself who's unable to use the paddles, makes my situation a bit worrying. when i pulled away from a roundabout (rolling start 2nd gear) down a slip road (onto a busy dual carr) the car refused to change up to 3rd etc even with revs at 6k so i was forced to pullover and stop for a second or 3 and pull away again. the 1st time this happened i was on a normal country road so i basically had to just stop in the middle of the road.. i think it might of been because the box was still cold but still.. sorry to go off track a bit to OP :)

Sounds like you could have selected drive but then pulled the gear shift back again and selected the Sport setting which will hang on to each gear until you red line it. Next time it does it look in the dash (AIS) at the gear display. If it display S1, S2, S3 etc as it changes gear pull the gear shift back again and it should change back to D1, D2

Or even pushed it to the left, in which case it will show M1, M2 etc.

If I'm not wrong maxie is disabled so he may not be able to use the shifter as quickly as an abled person.

Yeah I know but that’s not really the point, we were trying to come up with plausible reasons for the car to hold the gear and not shift up.

Right, so telling a person with a disability to do something that they may not be able to do is the point.

hi all, it's not the shifter as it's in D set to eco (and once i'm moving hands go nowhere near it) but i've noticed that when i pull off a bit quicker in eco the electronics (maybe) get a bit confused hence causing the dsg to mess up... i'll try the car in normal for a bit to see if that cures it. if it happens i'll make a note what the readouts saying d2 etc.. thanks :)

Forget it. Or read it again. No one was telling anyone to do anything.

To quote JB GTI 'If it display S1, S2, S3 etc as it changes gear pull the gear shift back again and it should change back to D1, D2'

And quote yourself 'Or even pushed it to the left, in which case it will show M1, M2 etc'

Yet you continue to miss the critical ‘Sounds like you could have selected drive but then pulled the gear shift back again and selected the Sport’. The actions suggested were to rectify a potential mistake made.

^^^^^^^

Have to say that inadvertantly selecting sport mode sounds the most likely explanation to me to.

Ah, well, it would have been nice to find a simple answer. My dsg 'box has been faultless from day one. It's a complex piece of kit, so I guess the occasional problem is inevitable. Bad luck for you to get it but, hopefully, adjustment will sort it. Really good when it's working well!
