Jumping in but need some opinions
« on: 19 February 2016, 13:29 »
Hi all,

I've been a lurker on this forum for a very long time and I am looking to make my first purchase quite soon.  I just wanted to run some quotes by you guys first to see what you all thought about my thinking.

My requirements are a

DSG, 5 Door, any colour.  preferably 2014 and later.

Currently on the VW Das velt auto listings there are multiple ones at about two years old for the above specs, about 10,000 miles, costing about 20,000.

For the 20k, I can go to the bank and get a personal loan at 3.4% and just pay this off over the course of 5 years.

PCP for the above would be @ 10.9% albeit with 2 years servicing, 2 years warranty, and 500 contribution.

-----------------

The alternative, is I order a new one from the dealership, who have quoted me 25,750 (after contributions), and this would be a PCP deal at 4.9%. (3k deposit, approx 328pm x 3 years, then 12.5k residual)  I also get a new car with all the new features. (May delivery, although not really a concern!)

---------------

I am still unsure about whether I want to keep the car for longer than 3 or four years.

---------------

I have been racking my brains trying to figure out my best course of action!  Partly loving the fun of buying a new car :).

I would appreciate any comments you guys have!   Feel free to tell me if you think the 20k seems a bit much for second hand car when for 5k more I can have the newer one! :)

Thanks all!

edited for spelling.

Before considering buying new go to drivethedeal.com or orangewheels as the discount can be sizable.

I ordered my GTD from VW Swindon who price matched DTD and made a considerable saving - with incentive contributions circa £6K!

I managed to have a look at those, but the carwow comes out at about 25,000 and drive the deal is about 25,5.  So pretty much the same as dealership.  bit strange

Thanks mate, yeah GTI world in Edinburgh has a few GTIs but none that match my spec at 20k.  I have met Dean who works there and he was very helpful when I was there.  If I see any available on GTI World's site I will be popping over straight away!

Did you buy yours in Edinburgh barrym?

I make the Drive the Deal price £24,798 for 5dr DSG plain black.
What are you driving just now? Or anyone at home driving a VW as you will get another £1000 loyalty bonus bringing it down to £23,798. Which if you compare that to the 2 year old you have been looking at @ £20,000 makes the new car a decent price.
You'd be getting a full 3 year warranty, 2 years servicing and all the standard extras of the my16 cars of Keyless, Sat Nav and winter pack.

Unfortunately the loyaltly bonus with vw  stopped as of last Sunday which I a shame as I was trading an old vw golf aswell!

New car definitely seems appealing at 5.5k more!

I have had a look into it but if I was to buy second hand it would proabably be using pcp anyway and then pay off immediately using a personal loan at 3.4% so I will get the benefits of das velt auto (2 years servicing, warranty,) 500 off but then not have to suffer the 10.9% PCP rate!

Thanks for all the replies so far! Very grateful for everyone's help!

Who told you that?  Let me guess a dealer
Its always been until the end of March. ie you had to collect your new car before the end of March but it looks now its as long as you order before the end of March.

My dealer told me that it will work even after the end of March. My wife want to change her Mk6 GTi for a Clubsport and we are still not sure if we will be even able to order it before the end of March.
