Advanced Phone Prep and MIB II

Hi all. I'm potentially looking at swapping out of the GTD after over 2 years of brilliant ownership. Mainly due to my PCP ending in 6 months, the deals being offered at the moment and the main fact that I'm just not doing the miles any more to really justify a diesel.

That being the case, I've been configuring a new GTI PP 5 door DSG on the VW Configurator and am currently getting quotes. One question that I can't seem to find an answer to is that in specifying the Tech Pack (Discover Nav pro and Dynaudio - which I have on my GTD), is it essential to specify advanced phone pack to get the best compatibility and functionality out of the "Inform and Drive" system as well as the car net (Apply Carplay and Android Auto).

As far as I understand, advanced phone just gives you better aerial reception (by connection to the car's aerial) and a USB charging socket ?I know it's essential if choosing the climate windscreen in that VW don't give you the choice, but does it impact on Car-Net connectivity or can I just leave it off ?

I don't think the advanced telephone prep has anything to do with car net and such.
It's just for people who use their phones a lot and want the best reception and ease of use.

It only really works with phones that aren't made by Apple. I have it because I've got the heated screen and VW won't let you order the screen without the advanced phone. I cant tell if I'm getting any discernable benifit from having it but I do get a really good signal with my iPhone.

Advanced Phone Prep is two usb ports, one in the arm rest and one in the cubby hole. No MDI connector. Both work for data through to the MIB1 not sure on the MIB2. Easier for a hard drive to live in the arm rest than the cubby hole.
