I did the ALA Replacement Plus policy - as noted it's only a few pounds more but worth it if you secured discount and the invoice price may not replace your car unless you secure similar discount.

I see you're picking up a day early - nice - and the weather's looking good for your first few days of ownership

We'll have to meet up somewhere for a coffee and Golf chat - I can say that with the confidence that your Golf R will not unsettle me :undecided: as I'm more than happy with the GTI

As in extras?
Taking that further, if you are the second owner you would never know what was standard from the factory and what was an extra.

I've mentioned 'optional extras) to insurers in the past and always been told they don't class them as 'modifications' if they are factory specced.

And as Steven (p3asa) says only the original owner would know for sure what they are.

If the car came from the factory with it then I would not define it as a modification. A modification is something that has been changed post-build. An insurance company should not penalise you for selecting an option when ordering a new car. There might be some that would only replace the basic car, but quite often you only get to know how sh!te an insurance company is when you need to make a claim - i've been treated quite shabbily for 1 non-fault claim that was fully paid up by the other side in the GTD last Nov, and i'm about to tell them to shove their renewal up their arse!

So collecting my R tomorrow evening, and this morning it suddenly dawned on me I've never even checked insurance for it
So I phoned my insurance company this morning, and to change over from my GTD which costs £275, my new premium is now £290  and that is only because of a £15 admin charge.
I guess it pays to be in your 30s

Just paid my insurance for my GTI PP £204 , guess it pays to be in your 50s
Do you mind telling me who you're insured with?
I've just ordered the same car and that seems like a great price.
I'm in my 50's also

The general consensus among insurers is that if it can be ordered and fitted when the car is built it is not a modification. The only time I have found this not to be the case was admittedly a few years ago with another Golf when I was ringing around for quotes and spoke to  the company that claims to "quote you happy" their stance was anything other than standard build was going to cost you extra. Even metallic paint.. WTF  !!!
What I consider to be a bigger ball ache every year is the annual reminder that lands on the door mat that is always about £50-100 dearer than the premium is if you do a like for like quote online.  Every year I ring up and they never have any justification for the extra charge and end up doing it at the lower price.

It's their reward for your loyalty/apathy. Always shop around, you get nowt for loyalty, and if your car insurance is due within a month, order it today to beat the insurance tax going up tomorrow. I'm about to do mine as it is due on the 23rd.

That's quite interesting really, if you don't declare you fact fit sat nav that's cost £1700 then will they pay out for it? If it gets
a) Stolen or
b) the car is totally written off.

What about your £2000 odd quid factory fit nappa leather? Most insurance companies that I ask state they will write it down and generally it doesn't effect the price. But at least its then covered. I was surprised to see gocompare valuing my 1 year R at 24.5-26.5k. I think it would cost more than that to replace a DSG one.

Most insurance polices have a feeble audio cover if stolen in the small print. usually less than £1000. Just imagine going to a dealer and asking for a replacement Disco Pro. I am sure it would be £2K+ fitted.
