Couriers & Claims
« on: 30 September 2015, 12:45 »
Wanted to share my story with everyone to see if anyone has any advice or help on my situation.

I sent an exhaust system with a courier to be sent back to the manufacturer to trade it for a different one, with the agreement that I ship them the exhaust and once they get it safely, I pay the difference and get my replacement. However, upon delivery the company informed me that the exhaust had been damaged in transit, that the packaging was a total mess and that it hadn't even been delivered to them, but the business next door.

Raising a dispute with the courier, they will only accept up to £200 liability saying they don't pay out for any more than that. They also threaten that because I didn't start the claim within the 48 hour window and that the package was signed for as fine, I might get nothing. They have also said that within their terms and conditions, they are allowed to deliver it to another address if needs be.

My argument to them is that I wasn't informed in time by the receiver as it wasn't delivered correctly, plus that it's been clearly mistreated while in their care and therefore should be paid out the full VAT invoice amount.

Has anyone else had trouble like this and what was the final outcome? Right now I'm over £1050 out of pocket and plans for my Golf R have been delayed by over a month now because of this.

Honestly its about packaging and taking a picture to with a no charge advise note of some kind.
You never get the value of the damaged item without major grief, I have 12k damage outstanding with ups....
My main concern is lost time so I crate or pack properly and record details

I happen to have a picture of it boxed up dated the 11th May so is that enough to prove that it's been damaged by the courier?

This, also the terms and conditions stated when buying extra insurance or going with std cover.

Their insurance only pays out £100 per label (I used 2) so I'm only being offered £200. My argument is they haven't fulfilled their terms of the deal and thus are in breech so I'm able to claim the full amount back. I'm getting them to send me their full T&C in writing so I can confirm a couple of things, if I see that they are indeed able to deliver to a different address without my consent and also able to escape all the other excuses they've given me then I'll throw the towel in and give up.

But considering the item is valued at £1070 on the invoice, you can understand why I'm fighting it all out! I've contacted citizens advice bureau to see if they can offer any help, hopefully they'll dig something up.

Totally understand you fighting it but if the parcel was insured for 200 that's what they are going to pay out.
