If you've got nav pro it's in the shark fin on the roof, maybe the rear screen but previously that wasn't good enough for GPS reception so they moved it to the roof aerial.

Optus prime, because you have expressed an interest here is the WD for the two aerial systems in question
Cheers

PS: on our mk7s, RX5 (shark fin) is fitted regardless of whether a discover media, or a discover pro us fitted to the car (i.e. all cars have it fitted if a SATNAV is in the car)

@dv52,

Thank you very much that confirms what we expected regarding the GPS aerial location, obviously R108/09 are for radio reception only

Optus Prime: I'm worried that I might not have given you all of the information regarding your question above!

I've just been helping a friend with an aerial problem on his 2015 Polo. It has the second generation MIB infotainment unit. After much fiddling and even more research, it appears that some of these vehicles do in fact have a diversified aerial set-up as an option (that uses the rear window as well as the roof aerial).

The identifying feature for the Polo of the diversified aerial set-up is the presence of 6 x speakers (the normal option has 4 x speakers). Not sure if this topology also happens in the newer mk7s that also have an MIBII unit. Anyhow, here's a bit about what happens in the Polo

Cheers

All MK7 regardless of the country they have been produced for have a shark fin antenna if the car has Discover Nav or Pro and no shark fin antenna if they come with the Composition media. In the later case, the radio antenna is built into the rear window heater.

Goebob: Thanks for the reply. Our cars down here in the Antipodes also have the same aerial set-up as you have described, but the topic of discussion was about GPS aerial(s).  My understanding when I responded to optus prime was that Golf mk7s had a single aerial for this purpose (what you have called the "shark fin"), but I suspect that there may be a diversified aerial option for GPS in the newer Golfs. Don't know, just suspect

Hi,

From my research it appears to be just the shark fin for gps.  Car booked in for dealer visit 09/09 so will report back.  However I have spoken to other dealers who have already had to change the fin on some MK7's due to them going high resistance :sad:  They are special order but available @ around £70.00.
