New(ish) mk6 Gti owner - what a palaver
« on: 16 July 2015, 19:09 »
Hi guys,

This is my first post on here so Sorry if this is the wrong area (and for the war and peace)

I have recently(ish) become the proud owner of a Mark 6 Golf GTI in black with DSG (first automatic and the DSG is awesome!). So purchased the car back in Nov from Crewe VW and had the gearbox serviced and a few little tweaks and changes before picking it up. Got in the car and just wow! It feels well built, quick and nimble, although not as point and shoot as my old clio 197!

Anyways 2 weeks in and the first problem arises...oil light comes on...take it back to VW and straight away they fill the reservoir in 5 minutes and a complimentary bottle of oil for the trouble, great. I'm thinking these guys are good. A few months later my air con goes really loud and after forking out £75 for an aircon regas they replace the compressor under warranty and refund me my £75. Ok...still going well. Then I continue to get an oil message so after battling for 3 more weeks they give in and replace the resevoir (issue hasn't come back)

So return to the car after the work and it appears as though during their standard car wash they have managed to put around a dozen foot and a half long deep scratches down my passenger front and rear doors as well as swirling the hell out of the paint! Not happy! I complain and after a bit of too-ing and fro-ing they agree to buff out the scratches, ok one mistake isn't bad. Return to my car after leaving it with them for 4 days to find that they have repaired the scratches to a moderate (albeit not perfect) degree and I get in the car to find that there is now 2 10 inch scratches across my rcd510! How this happened I have no idea! So they get specialists in to try and repair it - no dice, needs to be replaced with a brand new unit...yay me.

So pick it up today to find that they have installed the unit with DAB (nice surprise) although this is the wrong radio and the DAB doesn't bloody work as there is no aerial. They have offered to have the aerial and that fitted for £90 at their specialist retrofitters.

I want to install a Bluetooth module as well as I've wanted this for a while. Do you guys think DAB is worth the £90 and should I even be paying as its their mistake? Also does anyone know anybody/company in the North-West that would be capable of a cost effective Bluetooth module and DAB aerial install who could also code it in?

Thanks in advance for the help, and got to say the golf is definitely one of the best performance cars I've owned and the only thing to sort after this is the bloody road rash so on to a winner

I don't think £90 is that bad for dab aerial. It goes behind the trim on the back window, and the wires have to be hidden all the way to the headunit. It's not a massive job but it all takes time! I used a company called Das auto tec from Birmingham to install my reverse camera and he did a good job. I believe he does retrofits for some vw dealers.

VW have confirmed that the valeter has agreed to pay 50/50 so £45 for DAB. Guess I can't really argue with that. Plus a mate of mine has taken pity on me for the scratches and has given me a pretty much full bottle of poor boys world black hole :) might get those swirls and scratches at least looking a bit better.
