Keeping her clean!
« on: 28 September 2005, 15:01 »
Hi guys

I know i am getting quite sad now, but i want to make sure i am doing everything i can to keep my little rivage in tip top condition- what do you all think about VW car cleaning products or am i better off with Autoglym?  Also for the mohair hood i know that you are not supposed to used any form of cleaner on them just a soft brush and if necessary water, is the autoglym fabric hood cleaner ok to use?

Finally has anyone used www.carvaletwarehouse.com  ?  Their prices certainly seem competitive?

thanks peeps!

I wouldn't bother with the VW stuff, I mostly use autoglym stuff but others might say Meguires or whatever. I can personally recommend the Autoglym cabriolet cleaner if its the one with the cleaner and the protector for around £20. The cleaner does bring it up a bit and the protector is brilliant, so much so that if you pour a cup of water on the roof it will form into droplets and roll off, just dont expect it to do that when it p1sses it down though !

Also, to keep all the crap off your roof get one of those clothes rollers from the supermarket and then brush it with one of those to get all your bits off it.

This is what I'd advise for you to get to start off with, all Autoglym -

Outside -

Ultra Deep Shine - this is a good polish and will bring the bodywork up like glass
Window Polish
Cabriolet cleaner and protector

Inside -

Leather Cleaner
Leather protector

Also get a very good leather but not one of the Autoglym pretend ones as thet are sh1te.

P.S. Not used it myself but some on here always recommend this for the leather www.liquidleather.com

gib...can just imagine ur standing there in your pink top rolling your hood for little dusty bits...

gib also recommended to me that you use some clean material for to put between your window and hood, when its folded down, for to stop any lines appearing on the hood off the window..if that makes sense?

ive used both autoglym and zymol and i find zymol to be the better of the two...but like gib said, everyones opinions differ....suppose its just up to trial and error and your own judgement

lol - You cheeky cow !

Another tip, if you buy and use the Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine DO NOT get the extra gloss protector as you will be wasting your time and money as it doesn't need to be used with the Ultra Deep Shine and I'be had that said to me by Autoglym themselves.

Haven't tried the deep shine one yet. Always used the extra gloss after using the normal autoglyn and it take ages to take off the car

I know what you mean Chris, it's a piece of p1ss to put on but takes ages to take off.

I've used the extra gloss before and it made a good job when I used it with the T-cut colour fast first then gloss over the top, it's just that there's no need to do it with the Ultra Deep stuff. I'm not sure that the Ultra Deep stuff would be any good on yours as it's mainly for darker cars apparently.  :undecided:

I use meguires stuf and seems to do a pretty good job of things. Used the quick clay over it all and the paint sure feels a load smoother now than it did b4. Think autoglym seems like the best stuf to use if u go by peoples opinions on here.

might giv that 1 a go next!?!

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..
