Car Magazine's Long-Term R Stolen
« on: 05 July 2015, 10:20 »
Just read this on the vwroc Forum:
Just spotted a tweet from Ben Barry of Car Magazine who had just started running an R as a long-termer. His Lapiz Blue 5dr was stolen from his house last night. Broke into house and got keys that were hidden in a drawer! KX15 PWO. Stolen from Stamford. Another one bites the dust...

Not good - cars today are relatively so secure that home invasions and threats of violence are the way to get keys (not withstanding the recent OBD hacking and thefts for various marques)

I guess most of the stolen cars like this are broken for parts or joyriding

I've always wondered though whether manufacturers are able to 'flag' the VIN of a stolen vehicle so that if it was ever to get serviced at some point in the future through a main dealer that it would flag up?

And when they realise it's actually just a Golf!

Assuming this R did not have any anti-theft device installed?  I know they got the keys, but was it a car with KESSY?

Most probably they read this topic on vwroc http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/5309-what-cars-do-you-believe-you-embarrassed-with-your-r/ and got scared that the car attracts too much heat at the traffic lights.
