Changing gear
« on: 24 April 2015, 16:00 »
Hi Guys
Just wondering if any of you have had or know of gear changing problems on the Mk7 GTI, particularly from 1st to 2nd.
Changing gear has become very 'notchy' over the last week with a drag going from 1st to 2nd.
Car is going in on Tuesday to dealer who said he is unaware of any issues.
Thanks

I had this same issue with my gtd up until recently,  for some reason it's got a lot smoother in the last month or so. I'll be mentioning it to the dealer when it's in for its first service in any case

I had my manual GTI in the dealer around a month ago because I couldn't get it into first. It started with occasionally being stubborn going into second, then first started to grind, then I couldn't use first at all and second started to play up,

I had the synchro rings replaced and it's fixed apparently. I ant as good as it was new but the gears work lol

Mine is the same when going from 1st to 2nd when cold it is as you described being very notchy.

Be interested to know what your dealer had to say.

Mine is also notchy first to second when cold. Asked garage to look at it when it was only a month old or so
Naturally they said it was ok!
There must be a design fault here.
