Pierburg 2e Carb fine Tuning HELP ME PLEASE :(
« on: 11 April 2015, 17:36 »
Hi there sorry to make another thread about pierburg carbs and all but do you know how to factory reset these carbs with the air to fuel mix? Like how many turns from fully tighten do I have to turn it out to set the right mixture? I have set my ignition timing at 18 degrees and I have played with the carb today and managed to bypass the stupid waxstat that usually causes many tick over problems so this has given me the ability of being able to adjust the tick over screw at the 3/4 bit on the left hand side so I can change the idling speed seperate to the air to fuel mix. All I know so far is that turning the air fuel mix clockwise makes the mix leaner :)

Thanks for any reply's and sorry again for bringing up another pierburg problem ;)

Thats not a bad idea cheers mate I never thought of that :P over thinking things I think ;) one last question then.

I dont suppose you know what sort of reading its meant to be? Or is that something the mot man will know? Cause we got someone who tests all of our cars for us and would be happy to help me out with this but if he don't know what sort of reading its meant to be then I'm pretty screwed ;)

orite fella? im not sure what the co should be on the carb models tbh, but the gti`s are somewhere between 1 and 2%. you could set it up at 1.5 and see how it runs. maybe checking the spark plug colour after 100 miles to see how its burning. but then again if the mot station know the right settings then forget what I just wrote

Gazareth's suggestion is spot on, you really want to get it on a decent gas analyser or you're just guessing.
I've never seen any guideline that says, all the way in and then 3 turns out is about right, or anything like that.

My recollection is that anticlockwise is leaner though. If you look carefully you can see a slot (or maybe a pair of holes above each other if it's an early one) on the side of the tube which the CO screw sits inside. As you unscrew the screw, anticlockwise, more of the slot is opened up and more air goes in = leaner.
I think the version on the 1.3 engine, the 2e3 does work the way you say, so maybe that's where you've seen that?

Book spec is 1% +/- 0.5% CO IIRC.
