Gti Engine size?

Hi guys, bought a gti golf mk1 and was wondering how i determine if its an 8v or a 16v?

There was never a factory Mk1 GTI 16V.

In case it has had a 16V conversion, the engines look quite different.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

if its an 8v the distributor is on front of engine. if its 16v it sticks out of gearbox end of cylinder head.
