So... The PP Gti...
« on: 08 February 2015, 17:43 »
Adds 10bhp over the standard car,  but adds 32kg (5stone) in weight.
So my question is... Is the PP car slower than the standard Gti,  less power to weight,    and does it feel lardy compared to it?
Has anyone driven both who can comment?
I have a PP car on order to replace my mk5 Gti in April.
Thanks

Ive driven both several times....to be honest they feel no different to drive what so ever in every day driving. Id doubt most people would notice the PP brakes and LSD over the none PP unless starting to push the car fairly hard. There is also a knack to getting the best out of the LSD....

But I cannot feel the extra weight in answer to your original question.

It's 0.1s quicker to 62mph in PP guise, that extra 10ps just about covers the effects of the extra weight, and a little bit extra. Going off power to weight ratios for the standard GTI, the car would only need 5ps to offset that extra PP weight. You'll not be able to notice the extra 5ps that comes without weight penalty.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

As Monkeyhanger states the Performance Pack is quicker than stock 0-62.

People don't buy the PP for the extra 10BHP they buy it for the better brakes and the limited slip differential. Not only do the brakes look better and larger than the standard brakes they also easily handle 300bhp meaning you can go Stage 1 without having to buy better brakes.

Oh and anyway. 32KG isn't a lot of weight. An average adult weighs around 70KG.

I've driven both for reasonable amounts of time and there is no discernible performance difference in the road that you'd notice.
What you do notice is that the brakes on the PP are MUCH better.
The diff works pretty imperceptibly and neither car suffers much under steer. In fact the PP is almost spooky for a FWD hatch.

Exactly as Exonian says. The limited slip diff makes the car behave like a 4WD car in the tight bends. Turn in, settle, accelerator down, car follows the line perfectly.

As Clarkson said "Even a baboon could drive the GTI around the track as fast as Stig"

Totally agree with everyone, I didn't buy the PP for 10BHP.  I bought it for the diff and brakes and the fact it's Performance model.

With a remap you're in the best setup ready for the extra power with the PP model.

Wheels still spin mind you
