Green Collar Cable Latest?
« on: 28 December 2014, 21:20 »
Right guys, just upgraded to an iPhone 5S from my iPhone 4S and need to change the MDI cable.

Now I've done a search and everyone seemed to say it's the green collar cable I need for the MDI to lightning connector. Is this still the right one before I go buy one as this info was from a year ago so not sure if it's changed or anyone's got a better solution?

I have something like this that cam with my car. I would check compatibility though from what it says at the bottom.

You can buy an Apple 32-pin to lightning adapter and just plug it into your old MDI cable.  Works a treat, is cheaper than a full MDI lead and is handy in case you need the adapter for any other devices you have.

I should say, I've got the adapter plugged into the red MDI lead.

The VW Lightning cable is very useful as it has a raised connector so it works with a cover on. The Apple 30pin to Lightning does not, so generally have to take it out the cover.

This is a fair point.  If your phone case doesn't leave enough space at the bottom for the Apple connector then the VW cable might be more practical than popping your phone in and out the case.  If this isn't a problem then the Apple connector works a treat complete with album artwork on my red MDI lead.

If you want album artwork to display, you need the green collared cable for a MK7 Golf, I tried an adaptor in mine and artwork would not display. Dealer initially sold me a white collared cable which I later found is not fully compatible with MK7, so got a green one and all is good. :)
