P2563 error code
« on: 21 November 2014, 12:25 »
Hi Guys,

My 2009 Golf (2.0 GT TDI CR 140) has recently started to develop a intermittent fault.  Every now and then when driving it throws up an Engine Management warning on the the display with a flashing glow plug light.  Sometimes it stays on for a few mins and then goes off, other times it can stay on much longer.  When the light comes on I have not noticed any difference with the way the car drives, still pulls strong, uses all the revs and idles as expected  I have tried to get the error code read which proved quite difficult as the ECU was not storing the error codes.

In the end I got lucky and managed to be with a friend when the light came on and he happened to have a code reader with him.  The fault code was p2563 turbocharger boost control position sensor, implausable signal.

Could anyone shed any light on this? A quick google search has metioned turbo actuaters and others have referenced electrical faults.  When the problem started a few weeks back the warning light would come on once a week or so now it seems to be every other day.

Any help much appreciated

Offline mike.

This is the Ross-Tech info

009571/P2563 - Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Circuit

Possible Symptoms
MIL on

Possible Causes
G581 Faulty
Wiring and/or connections faulty
ECM faulty

Possible Solutions
Check fuses
Check wiring and connections
Ohm test G581, see factory repair manual

009571/P2563 - Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Circuit: Implausible Signal

This fault code may be caused when the Actual and Specified Turbocharger requests are considered Implausible by the engine controller.

Possible Symptoms
MIL on

Possible Causes
Wiring and/or connections faulty
ECM faulty
G581 (Vane Position Sensor) Faulty or Binding due to adjustment/Turbocharger issues
Vacuum leak to/from Turbocharger (wastegate) actuator and Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)

Possible Solutions
Check fuses
Check wiring and connections
Ohm test G581, see factory repair manual
Check mechanical Turbocharger operation to rule out binging and excessive carbon
Check vacuum supply to/from Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) and Turbocharger (wastegate) actuator

Special Notes
When this fault is found in the NAR Market 2.0L CR TDI:

Measuring Block Group 034.2 (specified) and 034.3 (actual) G581 Vane Position Sensor values can be logged to see if the fields should mirror each other or deviate to confirm a problem.
NAR market vehicles that had TPI 2025464 | TSB 21-11-01 -or- the latest TPI 2025464/5 | TSB 21-13-01 completed to prevent no-start conditions in cold weather caused by a frozen intercooler may want to see this thread

locate this at the back of your engine

if that vac pipe is split as shown that  is most likely the problem. if it's not split, pull the pipe off and test the actuator is holding vacuum. if you dont have a mityvac or similar a bit of hose and some sucking will suffice
