Brake servo vacuum hose
« on: 12 September 2014, 12:36 »
Full of questions atm! But I guess that tends to happen when your car forgets when the 5th of Novemeber is...

So, my brake servo line was damaged in the fire, just at the manifold end as far as I can see. But what do you guys recommend for a replacement hose. Genuine ones seem hard to come by. I checked out wire reinforced silicone hoses, but I understand I need 12mm ID, and they only seem to come in 11, or 13. It obviously needs to not collapse under vacuum, and be the correct ID, although i dont know how much impact +/- 1mm would make to braking?

Any suggestions?
Cheers?

EDIT: Also, the first non-return valve (not damaged) has 2 blanks, and a line to the MFA for MPG. The MPG doesnt work anyway, so was just going to blank that. My assumtion would be that doing so would have no impact other than completly stopping the MFA reading MPG, correct?

It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

I would just head to a scrappy and have a look for something similar. use plastic pipe and join with small sections of hose and clips.

I ended up using something very similar to this. (Although nowhere near that cheap :( ) It was wire reinforces silicone hose. Has two layers of wire reinforcement to stop to getting sucked closed under vacuum. However car still hasnt been started since the fire, so no idea how will it will work. I see no reason for it not to, but hay ho

Is that stuff stretchy enough to get over the yellow lips on the valve section? The what I assume original stuff is like a hard plastic and I could only get it over two or so lips onto the valve. Would replace the whole thing to servo if this stuff will fit.

You need to soften the plastic stuff with a bit of heat to get it fully on. The stuff in the link is rubber and will go over the valve fine (might even need a clamp/clip to ensure no vacuum leak)

Sounds perfect, does it come in lengths, if so how long do I need. Away so can't measure.

I used about 75cm going from the first valve to the second. I would buy 2 meters to do the whole length from manifold to servo. You will have spare, but it's sold by the metre.
