Mk2 16v differential problems
« on: 23 September 2014, 16:51 »
hello,

right, need some help.

the diff has gone, its clunky and horrid in all aspects.

what is the best way around this, are we talking all new gearbox or is there a way to re-condition the diff itself?

all ideas welcome!

Could take the opportunity to fit an LSD.
But sh!ts expensive and I reckon a second hand gearbox is the best way to go about it.

Diff unbolts and can be rebuilt easily, kits available etc, good time to maybe play with FD ratio...

I would stick in a good 8v box. only difference is a slightly more motorway friendly 5th gear ratio but you would need an 8v clutch friction disc. as for the fd I wouldn't alter it as the standard is a good compromise.
