is it possible to take the gearbox out and leave the engine in place?
Looking at the space today if I drop the engine off the front mount it looks as if the box will clear the main side beam of the bay and drop down?
Am I right?

What I thought.
Have to support engine as the front mount has to be disconnected.

Yeah support the engine and with a bit of a fiddle the gearbox will come out the bottom, just remember to take the plate off the back of the engine !

jack under the sump with a length of wood to spread the weight

Well it wasn't!
Offside driveshaft proved impossible to get out of the way!
Dunno how it wasn't a problem when I took the engine/gearbox out last time!
Looks like I will have to undo the bottom ball joint to pull it out of the way!
