Though not a game breaker that would be good as cannot wait till MK8 R arrives (2017-18) so its this R or nothing as we stand (dismissed the S3 as would have to be a manual and no DCC and want both DSG & DCC)

S3 comes in manual and S-tronic, along with Audi magnetic ride (instead of DCC). The magnetic ride is part of the standard equipment on the saloon, which means it'll not lose you 80% of cost - as are 19" wheels (depends whether you like the S3 saloon, but apart from the colour (white - it would have to be Sepang blue for me) I loved the one at DTUK).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Saw a Lapiz Blue R in flesh Sunday at Wayside St Albans and thats me pretty much sold even if still about 18 mths from ordering.

None of my overall thoughts have changed, the front looks the most bland of the GTD/GTI/R and my not being sure of 4 exhausts has been replaced by loving the rear

Did not realise the front scoops were so deep and think they missed a trick with maybe not having these in chrome to match the chrome on the wing mirrors as would give depth and definiition to them where there is now none.

Was not sure about which wheels from photis but think now prefer the Cadiz wheels over the upgrade Pretoria as think there is too much openess of the spokes and its just too much disc on show and when they get the day to day rust they will not look so pretty

It was a cloudy day so the Lapiz Blue did not sparkle but loved it even looking quite flat.

Not a test drive and did not see on day but as cherry on the cake love the twin DRL and to have 300BHP and 4WD to put that power down is the game breaker.

Quite boring really knowing spec of car 18 mths ahead and also in that time driving a very similar car for much of the time, but if happy why change for change sake?

As keeping the GTD a far less sensible spec  3 door Lapiz Blue DSG DCC Winter Pack

PS: They had a really nice white 3 door GTI MK6 with lovely wheels in showroom for £18k - Got so used to MK7 spotting that forget MK6 is car be more than happy with too

I agree with all of this!

Admit to not realising that and my statement was from knowing have to spec nearly everything wanted when looking at A3 S line last time around - Still think the base price will likely be too rich for me and having seen a few A3 today am still as apathetic about them.

Will have a look at S3 at the time as going to see these cars is part of the fun but minds pretty set and as relaxed as ever been about car choice.
