Trade down?
« on: 15 August 2014, 19:02 »
So were in the process of purchasing our first house and I'm in a bit of a quandary as to whether to keep my Mk6 Gti (lease hire £275 a month), or get a £10k bank loan @ £225 a month and buy a Mk5 ED30. I think I prob know the answer, but be keen to hear ppl's opinions.

If you had the mk6 from new, you know the history and I would be inclined to keep it with the good spec you have.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

I'd keep the mk6, at least you know it's been looked after and serviced.  Though your monthly payment will be a bit lower on the mk5 there'll probably be increased maintenance costs to factor in on an older car.

Didn't you start a similar thread on this recently?
