Misleading info from UK MK7 Tuners.....
« on: 11 August 2014, 18:56 »
Hi there

Im after fitting a high flow down pipe and CAT to our GTI so have been looking at the various options including BCS and Milltek among others. So I contacted a certain UK tuner regarding fitting a Milltek sports cat asking if
A- I had to fit the entire system
B- Does this down pipe generate any engine malfunction lights.

The answer was.....

A- You have to fit the entire system to get the increase in performance.....
B- We sell a plug i unit which can have a stage 2 map installed which will prevent any engine malfunction lights.

Well.....lets face it 90% of any performance increase from a full exhaust system comes from the down pipe.

And the plug in unit they speak of has no further connections to the engine than that of a DTUK box (Cam position - boost in - boost out).....so has no effect or control over lambda sensor temperature faults which maybe generated regardless of the map installed.

I cannot help thinking these tuning companies who are early adopters of the MK7 golf are trying to pull our legs abit.....

Just my thoughts....I was quite hacked off with the reply to be honest....id would have gone and had a down pipe fitted by these guys until this response came through.

Milltek state "must be fitted with Milltek cat-back system" with regards to the downpipe. You would still see some performance gains but your lifetime milltek warranty will be void if you retained the standard cat-back system. They also state "requires a stage 2 remap" which would suggest they may have been seeing EMLs for cat efficiency during development.. tuning box won't get around that, unless it taps in to the rear o2 sensor. Looks like they're out of stock until the end of the month too according to their dealer website.

Hi Ian,

If you are after a downpipe for your Mk7 GTI please contact me. I'm new to the forum so I don't believe I can send PM's as of yet. If you are interested contact me on millsy_4@hotmail.co.uk.
