I think i found the reason why my drivers door often leaks when driving in heavy rain seal on the drivers door, and on opening stationary car after deluge.
Looking close up at the drain within the fold on the lower corner of the door it was partially blocked, not well formed from the factory when compared to the passenger side one which is visibly clear. Note to VW's QA department!
With offending surplus rubber now removed hopefully this is fixed.
