The PCP has nothing to do with being able to drive it on the road. If the supplying dealer has given you the car then you would assume you have signed the finance papers for it. If not like I said its got nothing to do with the legality to drive the car.

The V5 comes from the DVLA not with the car. It will usually be delivered within 10 days to the registered keeper.

You don't need a tax disc when getting the car from a dealer. They apply for it and again it will be sent directly to the registered keeper usually within 10 days. Its perfectly legal to drive on the roads like that.

Like Peterdoherty has said its yourself that applies for the 7 day drive away insurance. Have you done this? As it would be really unusual if the dealer ha let you drive it without insurance a they need the insurance details first before they can tax the car.

Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yes indeed I have the cover note on my e-mail from Vw finance, I only thought that the dealer will provide some document as well. My mistake here.

Regarding the finance papers, I have signed them and returned them to the dealer together with my identity documents (drivers license) and proof of address. I was just wondering if I should get a signed by the dealer copy of that contract.

If I don't get the V5 form until my 7 days free cover expires, will I still be able to set my own insurance on the car? I know they usually check to which car the number plate is assigned but at the moment If I do a quick plate check it says it is unregistered.

You don't need a V5 to get the car insured. Just give them the registration that is currently on the car. Like you say it may not be in their database yet so you would just go through the car details manually. Or if you have the original registration number give them that but tell them it is now on your private plate. I'm surprised though that the dealer has already put your private reg on the car as that usually takes about 10 days to do by the time you send it off to DVLA and they return it. I wonder if your car has been with the dealer for a couple of weeks before you got it?!

Yes you should have a copy of the finance documents. I would imagine that is a legal requirement. If you want, I can send you a copy of mine with my details blanked off obviously  so you know the kind of thing your looking for?

I'm unclear why the woman / dealer has said you will be all right to drive the car until the 7th July?! Is that when the drive away insurance is valid till?
