Kangaroo Mk4
« on: 15 May 2014, 15:39 »
There is so much info on this site that I'm just getting myself even more confused I'm afraid, so if I describe the symptoms maybe someone with more knowledge can identify the problem?
I was driving out of a 30mph limit into a national limit, gave my car (Mk4 PD 150) a bit of welly and it went as normal, I then slowed down for the next limit, when I accelerated again the car stuttered then pulled fine after that however, each time I was driving on just part throttle it was juddering, as if fuel starved, quite badly but would still accelerate ok but was now smoking (greyish colour) under moderate acceleration and fuel consumption seems to have risen a tad.
After doing some reading I assumed the problem to be the EGR so I set about removing and cleaning it (it was pretty fouled up) and de-coked the manifold as best I could without removing it.
When I refitted the EGR the car refused to start at all and now each time I try the starter jams!!
When cleaning the EGR I did drop it which put a tiny ding in the top so now I don't know if it is buggered or if there is some other problem. I attached a vacuum pump to the EGR but it doesn't make the flap move at all. I'm completely stumped - can anyone offer any advice (preferably relating to getting it going again!)
I'd really like to do away with the damned valve after seeing what was in it (seems to me to be like eating your own sh*t putting waste gasses back into the engine ) but read conflicting opinions
