My Handling Mods So Far - *UPDATE 7th April*
« on: 29 April 2014, 22:34 »
Hey up fella's,

So with my power being suitable enough for now (Stage 1 Revo - 276bhp) it was time to turn my attention to handling mods.

Most people start with springs and shocks. But for me at the moment and the roads around here, I have decided to leave lowering for a while, as my stock height looks and handles fine.

The main problem I was having was trying to get the power down in 1st, 2nd or 3rd with out the whole car shaking and wheel hoping all over the place. Yeah, I know the main thing is smooth throttle control, but that can only get you so far.

So I had 2 mods fitted at the same time to try reduce all of the above problems. I had Super Pro Anti lift Kit and the complete Vibra-Technic Dogbone Mount fitted. (followed by a quick alignment)

The difference that these 2 mods made was unbelievable, I literally cant make it wheel hop at all, even in the damp. The power delivery is so much more direct and the gears changes now feel great due to the Dogbone mount.

Anyone who is struggling to get all the power down, I would seriously recommend the above mods. As a few people know, I try to get parts second hand or barely used as i dont have loads of spare cash. (wedding, honeymoon blah blah blah )

So to give you an idea, I got my SuperPro A.L.K fro Alex @ AKS Tuning used for £99 - think 7000 miles on them. (which is nothing for the console bushes)

And the VibraTechnic Mount from Wigit for £75 including subframe

So on to the next handling mod. Well today they turned up and im super pumped about getting them fitted.

H&R Anti Roll Bars - 28mm / 24mm. These feel super well built and sturdy, and im sure they are going to be a vast improvement over the thin-ish OEM ones which gives excessive and vague body roll mid corner.

I ordered them from a German site which is doing huge discount on them: http://www.cartuningpoint.de/shop/   then search Part number : 33258-2. Only £307 posted

I will give a full update and review once fitted. I will then be getting a full geometry set-up done by a world champion racing driver who actually knows what he is doing when setting up cars.

28mm front that's commitment  That is a cracking price from Germany, we don't even get them that cheap at trade direct from the UK importer! I did notice though that your part number refers to the MK5 kit, the MK6 kit I have listed is 33014-2 for the 28/24 combo. Can't see them being much different but I'd double check before you start unbolting things.

May you should buy in bulk from Germany then .

Checked with Alex @ AKS and he said they are the exact same, just a different part number.

I dont think 28mm will be too bad upfrant

I just checked the individual part numbers for the bars and they are exactly the same.. yet H&R still ask £12 more for being labelled as a MK6 kit. Angry phone call heading their way this afternoon

Lool, I know its crazy. They are identical, yet they think a person with a MK6 has a bit more money, therefore they can charge more money than a MK5 owner (which is crazy cause im no where near been rich )

Just hoping they will be worth the money and make a big difference

So I had the H&R roll bars fitted today, and wow !!. I wasn't prepared for how good they would be. As soon as i went around the first sharp corner I had a huge grin on my face.

I can't stress how much of an impact these bars have made. There was literally no roll at all, it felt like i was back in a go kart. I tried to push them / me all the way home and had a great deal of fun. I haven't found the limit of these yet as I was already get a bit nervous at the speeds I was going into corners.

If you are half thinking about getting a set, you seriously wont be disappointing. Best handling mod so far. Just a shame i dint get these fitted earlier.

Also got this PowerFlex bush fitted into the actual dogmount shaft. Havent had enough time in the car to  give an opinion yet, but i will report back.
