Duff paint
« on: 28 April 2014, 12:14 »
Hi all,
I've been on the mk4 forum sorting out nigglie little problems with my golf. But seeing as it hasn't blown up or given me any sh!t this week I thought I may as well start on the paint. Now my cars a met green mk4 and to be fair it's paint is in pretty shoddy condition. I don't think that it's ever been hand washed because the paint is just full of swirls and scuffs. So my question is where do I begin? Should I buy an orbital polisher from halfords or can I use a drill with a polisher adapter on the end?  I've got my 2 buckets, should I buy some clay? What different strengths are there if any.? Apologies for the ramble. Any and all advice appreciated.

If you've not done it before then I wouldn't get a rotary, a da polisher is a much better option as you don't have the risk of burning through the paint.

I'd clay the car first, you want to get rid of any containments in the paintwork before polishing. I've found that Menzerna polishes and pads work well on MK4 golf's, the combination of polish and pad depends on how bad the defects are.
