You have to be careful as the rear of the clips is usually melted to prevent them being easily stolen. If you want to paint it matt black, the easiest and most effetive way is to use a paint called Plasti Dip. Not cheap but covers well and you can paint the badges in place, mask around them, any overspray is easily removed as it just rubs off. Read instructions carefully follow them.
