I still have some annoying noises when driving, maybe someone on here has some ideas as to what could be wrong......

Initially most of the noise came from the drivers side front, I had a ball joint and strut top mount replaced to potentially cure it. I even changed my wheels from 17s to 14s as I was told that the bigger wheels were rubbing, causing problems....

Then the noises transferred to the passenger side front, so I had that strut mount replaced as well. What I am getting now is two sorts of noise.....

1. When driving there is a continuous "vibration" type noise, both in a straight line and turning.

2. When turning a corner there is a "knock-knock-knock" type noise - this was originally diagnosed as the 17s rubbing on the arches, but they are gone now! This knocking noise also happens when I come to a stop - I get a single knock then nothing.

It's sending me mental to be honest, and I am constantly thinking that the wheel is going to drop off or something! I want to get these problems sorted before I end up in a padded cell!!!!

Any help appreciated.......................

Does your car have a balance weight on the O/S drive shaft . These can sometimes become loose from the clamping part and then they tend to move up and down the driveshaft causing allsorts of strange knocking sounds  :undecided:

the vibration could be the metal heat sheild behind the brake disc. try removing it or bending it.
the knocking noise when turning is normally the cv joint on its way out. they're fairly cheap and easy enough to replace
hope this helps

Thanks for the replies, sorry to be dense but what would this balance weight look like? Would it be obviously loose when looking around that area? I have had the car looked at by plenty of garages round here and none of them can find the problem - it's very annoying to say the least..........................

sounds like your CV joint has gone.

do you get a rattle noise over bumps? try pressing your breaks over a bump and see if the noise goes away. My pads used to rattle against the disk as the little clips fell out
