I broke down a couple of weeks ago in lane 2 of motorway and lost all power. Had all electric systems but no fueling (half tank so it's not that).

Rolled to a safe stop under a bridge and right by an emergency phone, so help and shelter was sorted. Car wouldn't restart. Turned but wouldn't take.

When AA man arrived car did fire up but only ran for a little while then died. Got a tow home.

Main fuel pump was replaced about a year ago by PO, I have since fitted new lift pump and fuel filter. I started and ran for a bit, took it round the block, no problems. Tired to go a bit further and it died again about a mile from home.

Got it back home, sprayed some carb cleaner in the metering head, charged battery to make sure I had strong starting, and left it 24 hours. Started and ran for a few minutes then idle dropped, could keep it running by keeping the revs up but let it idle and it cuts out.

I'm wondering if because if runs for bit then stops if the cold start jet is the reason, as this adds more fuel direct into the inlet until it warms up, once it warms up this stops - but for some reason then the main injectors are no longer supplying enough fuel on their own.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any other advice welcome. Thanks.
