Rattle from the n/s door
« on: 05 February 2014, 20:03 »
When i got my car two years ago there was what seemed like a cracking sound coming from the speaker and i did note it to VW when it went i for its first service. they never heard it.

now its two years later and they have finally heard it. unfortunately they say that its a rattle between the door panel and glove box, and that they will only fix rattles under warranty in the first six months of ownership for a new car (mine was a year old when i bought with 2k on the clock). I have said to them that i have notified them about this problem on the first service so it should be covered and it wasn't my fault that they didn't find it. well after we spoke they said if they have to replace the panel then it would be covered but if it just needs packing then it would cost me £95/hour.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Also can anyone tell me the name or part number of the valve that rattles at 2500 rev under heavy load cos they dont hear that either!

I had the the glove box/door panel rattle for about a year. Never took it to the dealer as I didn't want them to start ripping out panels (it's still under warranty).  Tried padding a few things between the two but it was still there.  However, after applying  pressure to the area down the side of the glove box and a bit of manipulation, the rattle has gone.  No idea if this did the trick or if it's just coincidence!

The rattle at 2500 revs - possibly the wastegate rod rattle.  I think you can get a small clip fitted which cures it.

The waste gate rattle is cured with a little u shaped clip, VW wouldn't do it for me foc as they said it wasn't a documented issue.

The clip cost about £12 from memory.

I had a little play with the panel last night and i couldnt figure out exactly where is came from. pressed all the panels to see if i could find it with no luck. I think may have to get my mate to drive my car while i look down the side.

Really not happy with VW for not fixing this under warranty as something has definitely gone wrong as its been gettin worse over the last two years.

Will have a word about the waste gate rattle and see is they will sort it but i dont think that they will as they seem reluctant to do anything to fix the car.

Nice one VW,stand by your marketing claims why don't ya, So basically then VW don't expect their overpriced inferior product to last more than 6 months before it starts to rattle like an 80's Alfa.

Hmmm...what happened there, was supposed to more

Have you tried the removing the Dash end caps and checking the bolts for the dash,a lot of MK5's were loose and causing rattles from door area.

Ye was gonna have a look but waiting for the rain to stop. my only problem is that i only have one had that works at the moment so may be a bit difficult.

personally i cant stand the service manager. doesnt seem to really care.

Mine has a noise from somewhere over there too.
It sounds to me like a length of wire going up the inside of the pillar that resonates or bounces about at around 1100 - 1250 rpm.
I've passengered and leant on the dash, pushed the headlining, squeezed the door panel etc.
I can't remember what worked when I put pressure on but I reckon it's just that length of cable bouncing around at low revs
