People used to be very keen on keeping the "negatives" of stuff like this! If you have a stash of old photos, it may be worth sifting through to find the negative, you can then get it reprinted exactly as it should be

My Dad also did D Day with the 101st American Airborne... the stories are incredible!

I would like to get my grandads war records at some point. He didn't really talk to much about his experiences but I do kind of wish I'd found out more.

A few things he told me that spring to mind about D Day..... He though it was just another training exercise on the day. He told me that the soldiers got a tot of rum on the landing craft. His tank landing craft got hit by a shell and he was as only 1 of 3 survivors.

Thanks for your messages guys. A friend of mine has kindly had a go at it and made a pretty good job of restoring the photo.

Thanks anyway

Nice one - sorry my mate hasn't got back to me yet :-(

Find out as much as you can! especially if older members of the family are at the funeral. Too many people these days are not wiling to show an interest, which is so sad considering what so many people went through
My Dad was "SOE" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Operations_Executive, and there are absolutely no records, or medals of operations he was on, all we have are his memoirs that were put together a few years before he died. He was heavily involved in Bletchly Park, and the setting up of X Stations just after the end of WW2... very significant stuff!
