1.4 sportback most probably pending selling the GTI of course.

Everyone else, thanks for your replies, i do wonder though how come the re-sale price is so low compared to how much i initially paid for the car.  I find such depreciation strange given that (1) i sold my 4 year old GT before i got the GTI, and got approx. 12K for it, that's for a car that did not have so many extras, had similar mileage and cost me 13K less when bought as new and (2) I see cars of similar age and price range selling for over 15K.  My mate went to trade his slightly older and with slightly more milage bmw 3 series coupe and got 18K for it.

Also as long as i can remember depreciation affected golf's less than other brands. 

Anyways I will pay the dealer a visit and see what they say.

Why not sell it privately? There's a good £2k to be made there and a good condition gti will not have a problem selling.

hope you are right, however car trade in Cyprus has taken a massive blow with the crisis and all, sales have plummeted and at the same time people can buy cars from the UK paying peanuts for taxes, meaning it is becoming an increasingly difficult market.  The plus point is that many people still prefer to buy a car that they can themselves drive and check.  Still, i am not prepared to sell for 10-12K and take such a massive loss on what i paid for the car. I know, i know that's how car trade works but still...
