In a recent thread I explained how I'd discovered an oil leak, took in in today to VW Southend and they diagnosed a faulty oil separator & leaking hoses & clips, quoted £320.

I bought the car 3 months ago (from a different dealer) with an approved used warranty - but I've just been told that it is not covered, after they had a discussion with Mondial.

As far as I can see this is not on the list of non-covered part, i.e. consumables, so they seem to be making it up as they go along.

Has anyone got experience as dealing with these approved Used claims, do you think these parts should be covered?

I never had any issues on the Mk5 when that was covered.

I have to say I am surprised it isn't covered, I would be asking another dealer on their view and avoid this dealer at all costs in the future. The dealers can push things if minded to do so.

probably should have said, the car is over 3 years old. Maybe that makes a difference.

My 'terms & conditions' is in the glove box of the car, so I can't read them.

The last work I had done on the Mk5 was when it was 5 years old, and the nephew now has it and kept the warranty up to this day ....

It seems parts have to fail instantly and completely before they are covered by the Approved Used Warranty. Because my Oil Separator is merely leaking oil but has not actually broken, but still needs replacing, I'm Donald Ducked.

If I ever get the cam chain tensioner death rattle, I won't fore-warn them, I'll wait for it to wreck the engine otherwise I'll be told it's consequential damage as a result of wear & tear or something stupid.
