Back on 30 Aug 2007 I reported a problem with my new Golf GTI DSG.
From day one it started to go wrong. First, second and sometimes third the gearbox would clunk quite badly, and would roll back some four car lengths before the box would bite.
After much arguing with my retailer they replaced the mechatronic (part of the box). More arguing and they then replaced the gearbox complete. However, the problem still remained. After that come denial after denial of any problems.
Trading Standards supplied me with a company that specialised in reporting whether a car was faulty or not. It cost £174 and the outcome was that the car was not fit for purpose. Even then the retailer refused to do anymore work, saying it was a characteristic of all golf gti's with DSG. I asked them to show me, yet after trying 3 different GTIs none had the same issues.
The mechanic stated there was a problem but the managers stated there was no problem as they had driven my car and as far as they were concerned the car drove perfectly in never way.
I then asked for the principle manager. When he arrived he immediately stated I had been mis-sold a car and would source a new one. I even received an email from the new sales manager stating he would deal with it when he came back off holiday. In the meantime I was told to call the manufacture. Many calls later I was given my own manager. She told me they were going to send down a technician to investigate. I agreed but shortly I could not get in touch with that manager again and was informed that the technician was cancelled. Why, I have no idea.
Much more went on and I was completely put off of ever dealing with them again.
I will say. When it was first purchased and the gearbox behaved it's self I loved that car and I loved that gearbox. However, I was unaware of what was to come.
After 7-8 months of hell I had decided to part company and join another manufacture and retailer. Since leaving them I have purchase 4 brand new cars, each to the value between 26000-30000. I guess they lost a customer who would have gone on the purchase more from that retailer had they have treated me as they say they do but I guess I was not valued enough.
I would not want to put anyone off purchasing a Golf. No, that would not be me. They are fantastic cars but I would hate anyone to be placed in my position. It was hell.
