in your old school experience then. is it cheaper to have the pump and belt replaced than the head gasket?

My close friend has had a nightmare with head gaskets in the past and he said the cars never the same once you get it back!!

i have never seen a head gasket fail on any of my 11 golfs  and some of them had double your mileage  belt an pump will cost you anything from 250-350 to have done
