Calling all techies, What are my options?
« on: 23 August 2005, 13:06 »
Ok heres my dilemma, ive been doin my mk1 1.8 8v convertible gti up now for a yr and have spend shed loads, i mean loads. Anyways put my old engine in out of my crashed mk1 which was standing for about 2 yrs but prior to that i had bored it out to a 1.9 with new pistons, shells etc. Anyways after a while it started knocking so took it took my garage and bascially had to have it honed out, new pistons, shells etc. Now heres my prob after carefull running in it strated to  so took it took the garage that had just done the work and theyve come to the conclusion that as it was bored out the honed its made the bores thin and over heated hence resulting in the pistons being scored which i saw. So What Are My Options?

I was thinking in the longrun to get the Silverston engine from TSR fitted at £3229 but budgets abit low. Can i fit like a 16v engine in, without any mods? or is there any engines that will fit staright in that will be a better option, Any1 know of any goin?

Or should i just keep my eye open for the standard engine which has been done up and put that in???? im puzzle at the mo, so any ideas would be gud from u guys. thanks

What about going for a 2litre 8v from something like an audi 80, that way you wouldnt need to go through the grief and expense of doing the 16v conversion and would still have a nice engine at the end of it???
