non power steering rack boot
« on: 31 October 2013, 17:40 »
afternoon dubbers

as the title states, im trying to find a non power steering rack boot for the knuckle, goes from the rack to the bulk head. power steering has never working in my car properly, lines are corroded and noticed the other day ones starting to leak. now everyone is going to hate but I prefer non power steering, so have changed my rack to non power steering and now struggling to find a gator, the original on out of the car doesn't fit obviously because its power steering and too short. the non power steering one is perished.

anyone got any Idea where I can get one from? part numbers and places a bonus, searched high and low for these, even old postd on every forum I can think of, just need help trying to find now

thanks in advanced!

nobody will hate you for fitting no-ps stearing but don't see the point personally, plus you would have to declare this mod to your insurance which probably will make it go up since VW have most likely not sold your car ever without PS (unless you originally had a 1.4 with PS, which nobody would have bought as it was an expensive option, cheaper to buy 1.6+).

all golfs with 75ps or more had power steering, and tbh not too many 1.4 petrols or non turbo diesels were sold in the uk. not seen any for sale in recent years. think most would have been scrapped long ago since nobody would have gone for them second hand (1.6 did not need more petrol and is only marginally more expensive to run otherwise, non-td(i) diesels were pointless and only scrooge mc duck would bother to buy one new)

think you will struggle to find any parts (does not help that the uk + ie is the only country in europe that drives on left, and rh traffic parts wont fit) and probably find that you need to go back to ps setup.

Found out, gem told me about vagcat. All the part numbers for all the vag bits, and from that I managed to track one down

Hi buddy, slightly late but I had your same problem bout 6 months ago re hunting a boot. I tried all breakers yards forums etc. ended up paying around £45 from vw. Them melted it first time I ran it up. Doh... Ps. Non power steering, even with a new rack arms end etc is still and utter pig to drive. Only plus times is when your planted in a bend.

Good look dude.
