ADC on the GTD manual
« on: 16 October 2013, 07:49 »
Hi guys,

Maybe I'm being a total idiot but we have been trying out the adc and it works pretty well.
The manuals seem to suggest it can bring the car to a total stop but how does it do that in a manual without the driver depressing the clutch? Surely adc can only work the brakes meaning the car would eventually stall?

Anyone have any idea?

Can bring the DSGs to a complete stop. On a manual it gives you a warning bang on the brakes (not slowing you up enough to stall) if you didn't react to the visual/audible warnings.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Does city braking not bring you to a complete stop though?

I asked the same question on another thread but nobody replied so I just presumed nobody had tried it

Can't see how it could without stalling the engine, although stalling the engine may be something VW is not bothered about if the speed at which it happens is low enough (<15mph).

Don't know if it brings you to a complete stop - I'm not brave enough to try it out.

It does warn you if you are in the wrong gear though, can't remember the message but if the car has slowed you down to say 10mph and you are in 6th gear the car tells you to change.

I can't talk for the manual but it works great on the DSG. It slows you down then brings you to a complete halt in traffic etc and then starts up again when the car in front moves off.

If you have the stop/start enabled, then it does stop the engine (depending on its mood, battery charge etc) and you need to tell it to start the engine and go again by a quick dab of the accelerator or by pressing the cruise control on/off button.

Even if you have the start/stop turned off, then it seems to put a hold on after a few seconds of being at a halt and you need to press accelerator or on/off button to go again. I guess this is a safety feature - if the halt is only 2-3 seconds it continues to drive for you, but anymore than that it needs confirmation to start again.

Overall it is spooky how well it works, which accompanied with the parking assist which works very well also means it is so little effort to drive these days. Of course, when you get a twisty country road you just turn them off and press the loud pedal yourself.
