no USB in mk6?
« on: 16 September 2013, 16:09 »
I have a rcd 510 and theres no usb port anywhere, was very surprised to see this. Anyway was scouring Ebay and found this ;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-OEM-USB-Switch-Cable-fit-for-RCD510-RCD300-RCD310-GOLF-MK6-JETTA-MK5-Sagitar-/290893058188?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43ba93d08c

Am I right in thinking this will be placed where the parking sensor button lies (along that row) and act as a USB media in and also to charge items as well e.g mobile phone?

Just seen this;

Many Customer had the wrong expectation on this item.Please note it is USB Jack without USB enable function. You should ensure your VW radio's USB function has been activated. Before purchase, please check on Google or your local VW specialist and compare the interface carefully to ensure you understand the compatible risk.

How do I enable the 'usb function'?

No, no USB port as such but mine it came with 2 cables, either of which are to be plugged into the port in the arm rest - one for connecting iPod (pre lightening era) and the other, a cable for connecting to a USB

Does it plug into the back of your rns 510 as it shows in the pics on the item and how do you place it next to the esp?

Am I the only one thinking that all Mk6 Golfs above S trim level came with an MDI port in the arm rest?

???
Does yours?  Mine doesn't, only has mdi port and the oem adaptor usb lead to connect into it!  I never use it so it is of no matter but seems very inconsistent from model to model.

I'm pretty sure that they all have one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SEAT-SKODA-MEDIA-IN-MDI-USB-ADAPTER-/251333056791?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3a849e1917 in the armrest. As you quite rightly say, you have two leads that plug into it. One for an iphone/pod and a USB one.

Yeah, that's what I've got.  I misread your post and thought you said you had a usb port in armrest   :rolleyes:

And one of these http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/140838759516?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1

OP - presumably you have the same in your armrest.  Why don't you just get the cable adaptor for usb?
