Engine cut out after start-up on Golf GTI Mk4

Hi, I have a 99 Golf GTI mk4 and ive noticed occasionally it has cut out shortly after starting it up - especially when the aircon is already switched on... from time to time the rev counter dips a little when stationary too although doesnt cut out - are these signs that the MAF is on the way out or is the fact that it is cutting out after start up more likely something else like spark plugs?

Hmmm , if it appears linked to the air-con , it may be that your battery / alternator is not working correctly .
