i have a n 85 gti with 180000 KM on it.  ity idles rough comeing to a stop when the engine is warm and have been told it is maybe due to low compression.  would an engine treatment help the situation???  what are they and what do they do,  do they work and any other oinfo would be apreciated

Get a compression test done on it, that will give you some clues.

check compression like vr6 said, if that is ok, id strip and clean all your breather hoses, air box assembly, bang a new filter in and try that 1st, if still the same you could try some injector cleaner like reddex etc,  ive used it in both of mine but i havent had a problem to start with, so i wouldnt like to say that it would work, the problem could be down to a number of things but try what vr6 said 1st, if its a tired engine that may be why you have probs

oh yeah if the engine treatment you were told about is that stuff to raise compression levels i wouldnt bother!, its like pouring araldite down your spark plug holes to fill any large gaps between pistons and bores, true artful bodger stuff stay well clear!
