Engine Judder/Shaking on Mk2 Golf Gti Digi
« on: 27 August 2013, 13:42 »
Hi all,

Ive recently bought a mk2 golf 8v Gti after having a stream of mk2f polos.

Upon purchaing the car I serviced the car with:
>New spark plugs
>New HT leads
>New Dizzy cap and rotar arm
>Changed the oil and filter
>New air filter

Up until yesterday the car has been running pretty well giving reasonable mpg figures and pulls very well through every gear.

However, yesterday the car suffered with a bad engine judder when motorway crusing beween 65-75mph. The problem only occured under partial (roughly half) throttle and was much worse when the engine was put under load. When going up hills/inclines or when overtaking cars the problem was much worse. Feathering the throttle to overtake or get up hills eliviated the problem, but I know this is not a solution.

The juddering was only noticed in 5th ger too. I tried the same rev range in 4th and the problem doesnt exist and it doesnt happen in any other gear either.

Ive been out for a drive today and the problem is still there but not as bad as it was yesterday.

I have tried to look for vac leaks by spraying WD40 over the vac hoses and inlet pipes and monifold to see if it alters the revs at idle, but the engine revs didnt change at all, and all of the consumable igntion parts have been changed.

I had a similar issue to this on an old mk2f polo and it was a nackered dizzy cap, but the one on the golf is only a month old and covered less than a 1000miles.

Having done a bit of reading people on similar questions have suggested fuel filter, blue temp sensor and change the coil outside of the stuff Ive alread done. Any futher advice would be really appriciated to see if i can solve this one.

Cheers

I has this problem a while back and I tried all the usual stuff like you said and it turned out to be the lift pump was totally dead and the main pump under the car was doing all the work and it was struggling to give enough fuel pressure under load
