Central locking
« on: 23 August 2013, 11:33 »
Hi Folks,

A neighbour knocked on a while ago to say he noticed every time he opened and closed his 2006 passat, it was also opening and closing my 2002 Golf GT TDi.  I put this down to a one in a million chance.  I recently noticed my car was open one night on works carpark after knowing full well I had closed it.  It turns out a lad who has a 2008 golf can also open and close my car. I cannot open or close the passat or the golf and VW want £70+vat to diagnose the issue but all they will tell me is that it needs recoding.  The lad at work can open and close but the key is different so cant start it but has anyone ever heard about this before?  The interweb tells me this cannot happen and the chances are a trillion, billion, hundred million to one chance that even 2 cars are the same !!!!

never heard that before...

Couldnt think of anything you could do really but get it re-coded.

if it was me id try to blag it with vw. its not your fault that your nextdoor neighbour can unlock your car with his key.

if your local garage dont want to know. go higher up the chain. eventually id imagine something will get done, either for free or for discounted price.
