Right sorry to be a pain but Im trying fix my car while on holiday haha!! (car over heating big time) My radiator wont kick in but works fine when i bridge the connections on the wires both slow and fast speed work, I noticed the bottom radiator hose isn't getting hot at all so I'm thinking could be the thermostat won't open, This is all info iv'e searched all night trying to find the fault.

only problem is i can't find any info on how to change the stat, im 99.9% sure its the part coming of the bottom radiator hose up towards the engine bay a box with two bolts on, but i keep reading i have to take the PAS out and alternator belt but i can't see why unless I'm looking in the wrong direction. PLEASE HELP I WANT TO GET HOME LOL.

biggest fear would be head gasket and a train ride home lol. (still holding hope)

If its anything like the 1.8/2.0 you just unbolt it from behind the water pump.
if you have pas then you need to drop the pas pump off and hang it out the way, un-clip the hoses on the flange and two bolts to remove and don't get wet....
Have you got a jack?

which 1.6 10x PS or the 75PS version?

on the 100hp version....
take the alternator out, then take water pump off.... saves you jacking it up with that small piece of s**t of a screw jack to undo the ps pump from the engine. then with the pump out you can change the thermostat easily... i.e. not crawling under the car getting a face shot of coolant when you undo the thermostat housing.

whole change can be done in 30 mins + whatever it takes you to refill system (that you need to do anyway if you take it out on the large 4 cylinders since thermostat sits at pretty much the lowest point on engine).
