RNS 510 versions
« on: 20 July 2013, 20:36 »
Hi all

Firstly I apologise if this has topic has been covered to death but I have literally just bought a Golf Gti Mk5 which was registered in June 2007.

I am currently looking to upgrade the stereo to a RNS 510 but am worried about battery drain issues and have read various blogs on what versions can or can't be bought without upgrading the Can Bus Gateway and then which versions have to be restricted (firmware wise) before any battery drain issues arise. But I cannot seem to identify what specific version (RNS510 and firmware) I can get before I have to get a different Can Bus Gateway.

I would like to get a RNS 510 version h or p if possible but am worried that the firmware may cause the battery drain issues. The previous owner had a RNS 510 version C working perfectly in the car which was a straight forward swap for the current CD player/radio in the car. He took it out before sale as he thought he would be able to sell the RNS510 separately for more money. I don't know whether it matters but it also has a full screen MFD screen as well.

Can anyone help and recommend what I can and cannot get to avoid any battery drain issues (without having to spend further funds on a Can Bus Gateway).

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

GilesM

you can get modified firmware to stop the battery drain issue. I didn't bother with that and changed the gateway instead, just gives you a bit piece of mind that's all.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.
